Current Fishing - 7th May

31st March: 17lb Common Rob Keeling with a 17lb common carp
The best fish of the past month has been a 17lb Common caught by a visiting angler. The past couple of days a 14lb Common and a few around 8lb including an almost black common. There are plenty 3lb+ and over.
Many small Roach in the margins and plenty 6oz and over with quite a few pushing the lb mark. A few chub, the best around 2lb, the occasional bream and barbel too. Very few tench showing.
Fishing is generally slow in the mornings, especially with the eastern breeze, fishing just gets better as the afternoon progresses through the evening. Sweetcorn catching but luncheon meat is the better bait. Surface fishing for carp in the afternoons with blue skies giving excellent sport.

Trout fishing

good in all pools with many anglers catching their limit, mainly montanas, viva and diawl bach.
8th May: 18lb 12oz Common Bill Singleton with a 18lb 12oz common carp caught 6 weeks after Rob Keeling's

Customer Comments:

"Thank you" card received from Clive and his son Phil who travel here from Hull.

Just a quick note to say what a brilliant two weeks we've had fishing. It's been a lovely holiday. Cottage as always clean, tidy and homely, and I caught well over 100lbs nearly every day. So that was worthwhile.
Just a shame we don't live nearer as I would really struggle to not go fishing on every day I had.
So, thank you both for a great two weeks. I shall have to keep in touch and hopefully won't be to long before we visit again.
Take care, all the best Clive and Phil.

Comment: Clive had another holiday a couple of months later. He's been coming here for a two week holiday for the past 6 years!

Swan Mussels

We have deliberately and purposely scattered many large Swan Mussels in each Coarse and Trout Lake. They are there as filter feeders and naturally help clean the water. They are up to 6" long, one angler called them "clam things". They are scarce in this part of West Wales and were deliberately put in the water by Bill (the owner). They are 24hour, free water filters and in a minor way help with the water quality. Therefore, should one take your bait, as occasionally happens, please, please do not throw them away or leave them on the bank to die! Please, please throw them back into the water. They are there for a reason, and are also expensive to buy, and so your help in keeping them alive and remaining in the lakes would very much be appreciated. Thank You, Bill

Nineoaks' has some superb recreational Coarse and Trout Fishing and Self Catering Angler and/or Family Holidays. In a naturally stunning setting, just 2 miles from the beautiful Ceredigion Coast and just 20 miles south of Aberystwyth.
Nine Oaks Angling Centre lies on the edge of the little hamlet of Oakford (“Derwen Gam” in Welsh) which is roughly 11/2 miles inland from the Aberystwyth to Cardigan Bay coast road A487. Ceredigion is one of the least populated counties in Wales, providing 60 miles of spectacular coastline with untouched beaches and miles of uncongested coastal footpaths. The counties main towns are Aberystwyth, Cardigan, Lampeter, and Aberaeron.

Our location is perfect for touring Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, and most places in Wales too. We have holiday cottages and static caravans and 3 Trout Pools and 3 Coarse Lakes. We provide excellent Trout and top-class general Coarse Fishing. The Trout Lakes contain mainly Rainbow and Blue Trout from 2lb plus small Brownies. The Coarse Lakes hold all varieties of Carp including Commons, Mirrors, Koi and Grass Carp up to 20lb+, Roach, Bream and skimmer Bream, Tench and small chub and small Barbel.

Our holiday accommodation is spotlessly clean, fresh and consists of self-catering holiday cottages; Welsh Tourist Board graded at 4star standard, and quality Static Caravans. All are very close to the lakes and all are suitable for couples, for family holidays (with or without fishing) or specifically Fishing Holidays. The cottages are disabled friendly. About 4 miles away, in a south-westerly direction, is the lovely old fishing village of New Quay (Wales) with its crystal clear waters and beautiful sweeping, sandy bays. Also 4 miles away, northerly, is the busy coastal town of Aberaeron with its myriad of colourful Victorian houses and shops.
Cardigan is 20 miles south, Aberystwyth is 20 miles north and Carmarthen roughly 35 miles away south easterly inland.
